In the name of boat speed

Robin was tied to pilings in the Travelift slip at Yacht Maintenance Co. in Cambridge, Md., before noon, and by 4 p.m., she was hauled and blocked up on jackstands. At a minimum, she will get a semislick bottom over the next week or two. (Read More…)

My good friend Richard Griffiths — he who spins the evocative nautical tales gathered in his five decades of sailing, many as a professional yacht captain — invited me to dine with him aboard Rosalind, his 1903 British fishing yacht, at the Oxford Boatyard. I would never hesitate to accept an invitation from Richard. I’d miss a  free Jay Leno performance, even if it wasn’t in Detroit, before I’d beg off from dinner on Rosalind. (Read More…)
